Rocky Mountain House Emergency Department to temporarily close

January 12, 2023

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE – Due to an unanticipated gap in physician coverage, the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) will temporarily be closed from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, January 13.

This is a temporary measure taken as a last resort after all options to find coverage were exhausted. AHS will continue to seek physician coverage to reduce the length of the closure and will communicate further if coverage is found.

Nursing staff will remain in the ED during the closure to assess any patients who present to the ED. They will provide first aid where needed and refer patients to alternate care facilities in surrounding communities, including the Myron Thompson Health Centre in Sundre, Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Sylvan Lake Advanced Ambulatory Care Service, and Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, as needed.

EMS services are prepared to respond to emergency events and support inter-facility transfers to neighbouring sites.

All other services at the site will continue to operate as normal. Inpatient units are not affected by the temporary ED closure.

We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.
