Coronation emergency department and acute care to close temporarily

February 23, 2024

CORONATION – Due to a gap in physician coverage, the Coronation Hospital and Care Centre emergency department (ED) and Acute Care services will be temporarily closed, from 8 a.m. Monday, February 26 to noon Monday, March 1, inclusive.

This is a temporary measure, and we continue to seek locum coverage. Should any of this gap be filled, service will be restored, and the community will be notified. Nursing staff will be present at the site to provide first aid and triage patients to other facilities in surrounding communities as required.

Patients requiring emergency medical care and/or admission during this time are asked to call 911. EMS will re-route to surrounding facilities, including the Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital in Castor, the Hanna Health Centre and the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre.

There will be minimal, if any, impacts to Long Term Care as residents will remain in place unless emergency or acute care is required.

Community members are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.

AHS remains dedicated to recruitment in rural Alberta and is working toward bringing a new physician to this community.

AHS is grateful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
