Update to temporary closure of Stettler emergency department

October 28, 2024

STETTLER - A temporary closure of the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre Emergency Department (ED) has been shortened.

Last week, Alberta Health Services announced a temporary closure of the local ED from Oct. 29 at 8 a.m. to Oct. 30 at 8 a.m. due to a gap in physician coverage. As some physician coverage has since been identified, the temporary ED closure is now scheduled for Oct. 29 from 4 p.m. to Oct. 30 at 8 a.m.

During temporary closures, nursing staff are on-site in the ED to provide triage and assessments for patients who present to the department. Patients will be referred to alternative care options depending on their condition.

EMS will transport patients requiring emergency care to nearby facilities, including Drumheller Health Centre, Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre, St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose, Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital in Castor or Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

Other services at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre are not impacted by this temporary closure.

AHS is grateful for the support of staff and physicians who have helped minimize this temporary disruption as much as possible. Additionally, AHS appreciates the support of surrounding healthcare centres and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
