Stettler Emergency Department to remain open overnight December 26

December 24, 2024

STETTLER – The Emergency Department (ED) at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre will remain open and fully operational overnight on December 26 after alternative physician coverage has been successfully secured.

A previously identified gap in physician coverage from 5 p.m. Thursday, December 26 until 8 a.m. on Friday, December 27 has been filled.

The ED will continue to be temporarily closed:

When gaps in physician coverage are identified, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has processes in place to seek alternative coverage to avoid disruptions to services. Efforts remain ongoing to minimize disruptions as much as possible.

During temporary closures, nursing staff are on-site in the ED to triage, assess patients and refer patients who may present to the department to alternate care options depending on their condition.

EMS will transport patients requiring emergency care to nearby facilities, including Drumheller Health Centre, Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre, St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose or Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

AHS is grateful for the support of staff and physicians who have helped minimize these temporary disruptions as much as possible. Additionally, AHS appreciates the support of surrounding healthcare centres and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
