BARRHEAD – Due to an unscheduled healthcare staffing disruption, the emergency department at Barrhead Healthcare Centre are diverting admissions to nearby healthcare facilities as required until 7 a.m. on April 3.
Patients can still present to Barrhead Healthcare Centre to be assessed by a physician on site and will be diverted to healthcare sites in the region only as required. Only patients who are medically appropriate to transport will be diverted out of Barrhead Healthcare Centre.
This measure is being taken as a last resort. Alberta Health Services is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time, and to keep all other services at the site operating as normal.
Other care services at the Barrhead Healthcare Centre are not impacted by this temporary disruption.
Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency, health-related questions.
AHS is grateful for the support of staff and physicians who have helped minimize this temporary disruption as much as possible. Additionally, AHS appreciates the support of surrounding healthcare centres and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
