Temporary closure of Daysland Emergency Departmen

September 29, 2022

DAYSLAND – The Daysland Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) will continue to be without overnight on-site physician coverage Monday to Thursday through October.

The ED will be closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday to Thursday due to a lack of physician coverage. Weekend locum physician coverage for the ED is in place.

The ED will continue to be open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 24 hours a day Friday through Sunday.

Patients requiring emergency medical care during this time are asked to call 911. Ambulances will be rerouted to surrounding facilities.

For urgent care, nursing staff will remain on-site in the ED providing triage and referring patients to healthcare facilities in surrounding communities either by patient’s own transportation or EMS if required. Patients will not be seen by a physician during the hours of closure.

ED services required outside of these hours can be accessed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose (42 km away) or the Killam Health Care Centre (31 km away).

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.

AHS is grateful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.

AHS is working toward resuming regular operating hours on November 4.
