What We Do

MCA provides governance and coordination across six key clinical service areas by uniting specialized care teams. This collaborative approach enables us to pursue shared goals and address complex, multidisciplinary challenges more effectively.

  • General Internal Medicine, Hospital / Family Medicine
  • Nephrology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Respirology
  • Endocrinology
  • Rheumatology

Note: Medicine services are defined as acute and specialized care in inpatient and outpatient hospital settings. Other medicine clinical specialties or initiatives may be supported on a case-by-case basis, following an impact and feasibility assessment.

Areas of Focus

Through innovative, evidence based and collaborative initiatives, MCA supports ACA’s mission by improving patient flow, optimizing medicine bed utilization, reducing hospital length of stay and strengthening access to specialty care. Over the next three years this work will be advanced through targeted efforts in three areas of focus as outlined below.

Establishing a Provincial Plan for Standardized Hospital Care

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a provincial plan with evidence-based recommendations.
  • Ensure high-quality, standardized, and efficient hospital care for adult Medicine patients.

Improving Capacity & Flow

  • Support initiatives that expand acute care bed capacity.
  • Shorten hospital stays for patients.

Improving Access to Specialty Care

  • Enhance access to specialists in ambulatory care.
  • Reduce reliance on acute care services.
