WETASKIWIN – Albertans five years and up who still require a COVID-19 vaccine, as well as those seeking a booster, can book Pfizer appointments in Wetaskiwin during a series of clinic dates next month.
Appointments are available for the following clinics at the Wetaskiwin Community Health Centre (5610 40 Ave.):
No drop-in appointments are available at the site.
Appointments can be booked through the Alberta Vaccine Booking System or by calling Health Link at 811.
Those attending the clinic are asked to bring their Alberta Health Care card if they have one, along with photo ID. Use of face masks and hand sanitizer is required when attending the site for immunization. Albertans under the age of 18 years are requested to bring a parental consent form, or provide staff at the clinic with a number to call a parent/guardian to obtain consent if the parent/guardian is unable to accompany them.
Children five to 11 years of age who received their first dose at least eight weeks ago are now eligible for a second dose. A second dose can be booked before the recommended eight weeks for children who are immunocompromised, or if a second dose is required for travel. The minimum spacing between doses is 21 days.
There may be an increased risk of myocarditis/pericarditis following immunization earlier than the recommended eight weeks. However, a shortened interval between first and second doses may offer better protection for children who may be susceptible to infection, such as those that are immunocompromised, and earlier protection for those who are at greater risk of severe disease such as those with underlying high risk medical conditions.
If you have questions about the vaccine, please talk to your immunizer, pediatrician or family physician, call 811 or visit: ahs.ca/vaccinekids.
