New supportive living spaces in Wainwright available for seniors

September 8, 2023

WAINWRIGHT – Area residents with care needs will soon benefit from the addition of 10 new continuing care spaces at the local Points West Living (PWL) facility.

The additional designated supportive living spaces will open Sept. 15, with Alberta Health Services (AHS) providing operational funding.

“We know how important it is to age in one’s own community, close to friends and family,” says Garth Rowswell, MLA for Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright. “With the addition of these new beds, seniors in Wainwright and area can get the level of care they need while enjoying some comforts of home and connection to loved ones.”

With the new beds, Points West Living Wainwright will offer 69 supportive living spaces — including 24 spaces specifically for seniors with dementia — where residents can get support for their health and personal needs in a home-like environment.

Supportive living promotes residents’ independence and aging in place through the provision of services such as 24-hour monitoring, emergency response, security, meals, housekeeping and social-enrichment activities. On-site licensed practical nurses and healthcare aides support residents requiring assistance with daily living, including personal care and recreational programs.

“Our team is excited to be providing more care to more people in Wainwright,” says Linda Revell, CEO, Points West Living and Connecting Care. “We are thankful for our partnership with AHS and look forward to welcoming those who need our care and support to our family.”

“These new supportive living spaces provide quality care for adults and seniors in a home-like setting,” adds Lori Sparrow, Senior Operating Officer for Community and Seniors Health in AHS Central Zone. “This living option helps meet the health and personal needs of residents in a safe and secure environment, while addressing the unique needs of each individual.”
