Health Shared Services (HSS) was established on Oct. 22, 2025, pursuant to the Health Shared Services Provincial Health Corporation Regulation made under the Provincial Health Agencies Act (Alberta) (PHAA) for the purposes of delivering and coordinating the delivery of corporate and support services related to the administration and operation of Alberta’s healthcare system to provincial health agencies (PHAs) and provincial health corporations (PHCs).
These corporate and support services were formerly provided by corporate departments within Alberta Health Services (AHS), including contracting and procurement, finance, legal, privacy, communications and information technology.
As part of the Government of Alberta’s healthcare refocus initiative and restructuring of AHS into four PHAs and five PHCs, all contracts entered into by AHS have either been assigned or are in the process of being assigned to the various PHAs and PHCs, by way of a series of Ministerial Orders issued by the Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services under the authority of the PHAA. These contract assignments were determined based on the nature of the operations conducted by each of the PHA or PHC within the refocused healthcare system.
Please be advised that, unless otherwise informed by HSS or one of the PHAs or PHCs, your existing contract with AHS has been assigned to HSS based on a Ministerial Order assigning contracts to HSS effective as of Dec. 1, 2025.
