Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) seasonal immunization (influenza and COVID-19) clinics open the week of Oct. 7.

You can walk in, book online or call 811 to make an appointment. Please remember to bring your Alberta Personal Health Number. You can also check your site for a roving cart or get immunized by a site champion on your unit.

This year, you also have the option to receive an mRNA KP.2 COVID-19 vaccine at participating WHS clinics. If you have a copy of your last COVID-19 immunization records, please bring them with you to your appointment.

Your Wellness

Access caregiver support

There are times when additional support is needed to manage family and work commitments. Elder and family care is available through your Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Whether you’re caring for a sick family member, dealing with the loss of a loved one, navigating housing options for a relative, or looking for self-care tips as a caregiver, EFAP can guide you through every step.

For an additional resource, read Change the Conversation on how you can support a co-worker who is a caregiver at home and at work.

To get started, contact your EFAP at 1-877-273-3134. Physicians can contact the AMA Physician and Family Support Program, a confidential 24/7 support line, at 1-877-SOS-4MDS.

AHS gathers to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On Sept. 25, more than 1,600 AHS staff and community members took part in AHS National Day for Truth and Reconciliation sessions. Indigenous Wellness Core team members Jesse Alook-Lambrecht and Kendra Deveau led our learnings on truth and reconciliation and allyship, and Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack shared his story as a residential school survivor. His story of loss, strength, resilience and hope is an important and inspiring lesson.

One of the highlights of the day was from the Roasting family. Dreyson Roasting and his family gave thanks to staff at the Stollery Children’s Hospital and the Awasisak Indigenous Health Program for saving his leg from amputation and for incorporating traditional healing practices into his care journey. Dreyson and his family expressed their appreciation for the care he received, which enabled him to return to powwow dancing. Watch Dreyson dance in appreciation:

New neurology clinic opens in Stony Plain

A new neurology clinic at the WestView Health Centre in Stony Plain is helping more patients living in rural areas get the care they need in their community.

The clinic - located 40 km west of Edmonton - opened to patients in July and will run monthly at first before eventually moving to a weekly schedule. It is focused on treating patients with acute neurological conditions or new diagnoses. Before the clinic’s opening, some patients had to wait 12 to 18 months for an appointment. That wait time has been reduced to one to three months for patients in the area.

WestView has space and clerical support already available, with no additional equipment or staff required. The neurology clinic operates out of an existing shared clinic space that also offers clinics for casts, geriatric assessment, pediatric asthma and general pediatric assessments.
