Andre Tremblay was named interim AHS President & CEO this week, a new role he’ll perform while still serving as deputy minister of Alberta Health. He takes over from Athana Mentzelopoulos, who has been an integral part of AHS refocus efforts through 2024.
The move comes as work continues to establish Acute Care Alberta, the new provincial health agency that will have oversight over acute care service delivery across the province. In tandem, and to support this work, AHS is transitioning to a hospital-based service delivery provider.
Tremblay will help oversee the transition of staff from AHS to Primary Care Alberta and establish Acute Care Alberta as a legal entity. Both are expected to happen next month. He will also focus on winding up AHS’s existing functions as a regional health authority and support AHS’s new role as a hospital-based service provider.
The AHS Board will be leading recruitment efforts in the coming months to hire a permanent President & CEO.
