Help improve health literacy at AHS

Health literacy is the degree to which individuals can find, understand and use information and services to make health-related decisions and actions for themselves and others.

As healthcare providers and those who support healthcare, we have a pivotal role to play in making health information accessible to the populations we serve. Great work to support health literacy is already happening across our organization, and we want to find ways to share and improve how we do this through a Health Literacy Community of Practice. Through the community of practice, we can improve our collective health information communication skills, network with others, learn together and help create common standards for the information we share with patients, clients and colleagues.

Be part of this work. The first meeting of the Health Literacy Community of Practice is March 12 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Zoom. See Events on Health Literacy for details.

Similar lines are available for new parents in Calgary (Early Start Parent Information Line, 403-244-8351) and Edmonton (Healthy Beginnings Line, 780-413-7990).

Learn about the ethics considerations of palliative psychiatry

The Ethics Lunch ‘n’ Learn Series explores common healthcare issues, identifies ethical concerns at play, and provides an ethical framework for thinking them through.

A palliative care approach could be helpful in supporting individuals who are suffering from a severe and persistent mental illness, such as anorexia nervosa or refractory depression.

Join the next session, Ethical Considerations of Palliative Psychiatry, to learn more.

Attend a drop-in session focused on patient experience

Are you interested in improving the patient experience in your area but not sure where to start? AHS’ Engagement & Patient Experience (EPE) team invites you to Xchange, a monthly drop-in virtual session where you can connect with colleagues, learn about work happening across the province, share ideas and resources, and seek advice and support from your peers and EPE consultants. The conversations are always insightful and informative.
