Prepare for new staff scheduling system launching Aug. 25

On Aug. 25, the new staff scheduling system, MySchedule (powered by Infor WFM), will be implemented in the Edmonton, North, Central and South zones. Our previous scheduling system, Environment for Scheduling Personnel (ESP), will no longer be supported by the vendor at year’s end.

All managers and staff currently on ESP and transitioning to MySchedule (Infor WFM) must take the course: Staffing Services for Employees – Understanding Scheduling Essentials Using WFM Self Service. Visit MyLearningLink - search “Infor WFM”.

Managers and scheduling staff must complete this training to access the new system on Aug. 25 or you will not be able to log in. (Access after training takes 48 hours to process.) To ensure you are prepared for this transition, employees in these areas are also encouraged to review and complete all steps in the Employee Checklist.

Please display the training and Automatic Shift Callout (ASC) posters in your staff areas. (Note: Not all staff use ESP or this new system. Talk to your leader if you are unsure.) (more...)

Become a site champion to support influenza immunization efforts

Site champions play an important role in the success of the annual Seasonal Immunization Campaign for Workers. Last year, 868 site champions helped make the influenza vaccine accessible to healthcare workers across the province.

As trusted and familiar faces in their workplaces, site champions provide peer-to-peer influenza immunization, helping build confidence among their colleagues and increase vaccine uptake.

The role is open to all registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses, pharmacists and licensed practical nurses who have an immunization authorization noted on their practice permit.

Are you interested in becoming a site champion or know someone who would be a great fit? To learn more, review the frequently asked questions on site champions and immunizer training. You can also connect with an occupational health nurse for more information

EMS-811 Shared Response Line gains traction

More than 50,000 non-emergency calls requesting an ambulance have been received through the EMS-811 Shared Response Line since being established two years ago, as registered nurses help to ensure appropriate levels of care are offered to Albertans. This provincewide service follows internationally accepted guidelines to assess the seriousness of every call for an ambulance. If a call does not meet the criteria to dispatch an ambulance, the caller is connected to a registered nurse at Health Link 811, helping avoid unnecessary ambulance responses and/or visits to an emergency department. Caring for care workers’ wellness

Caring for Alberta’s elderly and vulnerable populations is critical, noble work, but it can also take its toll on workers’ mental health. It is critical that those who care for our loved ones every day also receive the care they deserve.

The province is tripling previous funding commitments to caring for the province’s continuing care workers by investing $7.5 million towards the mental well-being of front-line continuing care staff.

The effects of a positive, mental health-conscious work environment are felt by everyone. Staff experience benefits such as more inclusive workplaces and better work-life balance, operators see increased employee retention and lowered rates of absenteeism, and clients enjoy compassionate, high-quality care .
