What does this job look like at AHS?

Mechanics work with small engine mechanical equipment and machinery. They generally deal with landscaping and grounds machinery such as hedge trimmers, grass trimmers and snow blowers. Based on specifications and drawings, they maintain, repair and rebuild machines and equipment. When issues arise with some machinery, they diagnose the problems and work to resolve them. Mechanics also test and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.

When appropriate, mechanics provide staff with technical guidance and training. Mechanics are responsible for making recommendations related to the replacement, modification or major repair of equipment. They also ensure an adequate supply of equipment and parts are on-hand.

Mechanics are located in a number of different facilities including hospitals and other health-care centers. They may work full-time or part-time hours, primarily during business hours, Monday to Friday. Mechanics spend a considerable amount of time on their feet. From time to time, they may be required to lift heavy equipment and supplies. When working with machinery, mechanics may be required to crouch and bend.
