Mechanic

Maintaining small engines

Mechanics work with small engine mechanical equipment and machinery.

They generally deal with landscaping and grounds machinery such as hedge trimmers, grass trimmers, and snow blowers, maintaining, repairing and rebuilding machines and equipment.

When issues arise with some machinery, they diagnose the problems and work to resolve them.

Duties

  • Based on specifications and drawings, maintain, repair and rebuild machines and equipment
  • Test and perform preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Diagnose problems and work to resolve issues
  • Ensure an adequate supply of equipment and parts are on-hand
  • Make recommendations related to the replacement, modification or major repair of equipment

  • Enable the work of Facilities Maintenance and Engineering
  • Help keep facilities safe and pleasant for physicians, staff, volunteers, patients, and families
  • Keep down the allergen and irritant levels by enabling grounds maintenance
  • Prevent injuries due to slips and falls on snow and ice by maintaining equipment like snow blowers

Work Collaboratively

  • Collaborate with other mechanics, facility maintenance, administrative staff and management
  • Work in a variety of facilities including hospitals, healthcare centres and continuing care facilities
