Discover a prairie community that combines the best of both worlds: small town lifestyle and easy access to big-city amenities. Vegreville is renowned for its gigantic roadside attraction, the world’s largest Ukrainian Easter Egg. The egg includes a caption in English, French, German, and Ukrainian dedicated to the harmony of all the people who came together to build the community that exists today.

Vegreville was founded in the late 1800s and takes its name from a Roman Catholic Oblate Missionary. Today, the welcoming, multicultural town holds an annual Pysanka Festival to celebrate Ukrainian heritage and culture, featuring folk art, musical and dance performances, and a wide selection of cuisine. Don’t miss the showcase of local handcrafted and artisan products!

Throughout the year, Vegreville holds various special events, concerts, and festivals. In June, there’s a Father’s Day show and shine, demolition derby, and other events to kick off the summer. Every August, residents enjoy the five-day “Country Fair”, which includes a parade, midway, rodeo, grandstand shows, and marketplace featuring local and handmade goods. Vegreville also has a close relationship with the 41 Combat Engineer Regiment of the Canadian Forces, based in Edmonton, and holds a parade every Remembrance Day.

Aside from annual celebrations, Vegreville has all the essential amenities and services for a comfortable life. Families with school age children have K-12 public and Catholic schools, and there’s a range of clubs and extracurricular sports, including hockey, figure skating, curling, swimming, soccer, basketball, baseball, and more. Youth and adults can get involved at the local rink, the Wally Feldun Arena, go curling at the Multiplex’s 5 curling sheets, or take advantage of the range of equipment and activities at the Aquatic and Fitness Centre, or the central library and gymnasium. Golf 18-holes at the local golf course or 9-hole mini golf, camp at the Vegreville Municipal Campground, or register for a plot in the community gardens.

Borrow a bike or boat through the Vegreville Visitor Information Centre. From there, you can see Vegreville’s unique and historic attractions at your own pace, including the Vegreville Rotary Peace Park, Vegreville Regional Museum, or Our Lady of the Highway’s roadside shrine. Kids love the community spray park and playground during the summer.
