Supporting nursing graduates

Are you a new graduate or graduating soon from a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) program in Alberta?

The Graduate Nurse Transition Pilot Program (GNTPP) supports new nursing graduates entering the workforce.

The program pairs RN and RPN graduates with a clinical guide and mentor for up to 12 months during their transition to independent practice.

About the Program

The GNTPP is a structured, scalable initiative grounded in evidence-based practices including integrating extended orientation, clinical mentorship, and targeted support to strengthen new graduate nurse retention and promote long-term workforce sustainability.

It provides support to new graduate nurses through the first two years of their practice to help build confident staff and a stable workforce long-term.


Eligibility

GNTPP participants must be a graduate from an Alberta Nursing Program AND have one of the following designations:

  1. Graduate Nurses (GN) and Graduate Psychiatric Nurses (GPN)
  2. Registered Nurses (RNs)/Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPN) within 12 months of graduation and who do NOT already hold a regular position with the agencies identified in the UNA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  3. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who have completed a bridging program
