Procurement for Ground Ambulance Services

Emergency Health Services – Alberta

EHS-Alberta is updating how ambulance services are contracted to support and ensure emergency health services remain strong, sustainable, and responsive to community needs.

In March 2026, all current ground ambulance service providers were informed of EHS-Alberta’s intent to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the majority of ground ambulance services across Alberta.

EHS-Alberta currently holds contract agreements with 30 ground ambulance service partners delivering emergency health services in communities across the province, 29 which expire in September 2026. The procurement process will seek partners for new 10-year service agreements which will provide stability for patients, communities, and service providers, helping ensure reliable emergency care across Alberta now and into the future while bringing costs in alignment with services proved by EHS-Alberta.

There will be no reduction in service levels, regardless of who ends up providing services. EHS-Alberta is working closely with service providers to ensure uninterrupted care for Albertans.

This fair, transparent and routine procurement process will begin in the summer of 2026 and ensure contracted service partners are identified for new contracts to replace current agreements expiring on September 30, 2026.
