Global Handwashing Day & National Infection Control Week

Hand Hygiene, Infection Prevention & Control

October 15 is Global Handwashing Day, a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap and water as an effective and affordable way to prevent disease and save lives. Global Handwashing Day is an opportunity to design, test and replicate creative ways to encourage people to clean their hands using soap and water (or alcohol-based hand rub).

October 19 – 23 is National Infection Control Week, a time for infection control professionals to educate staff and the community about the importance of infection prevention and to promote the important work that has and continues to be done by infection control professionals in a visible and fun way. Although the COVID-19 pandemic will be a theme this year, the goal of this week is to ‘get back to basics’ and remind AHS staff, physicians and volunteers of the vital importance of IPC practices during and beyond COVID-19.

This interactive, virtual escape room – The Hidden Risk – was created to celebrate Global Handwashing Day (October 15) and National Infection Control Week, which runs from October 19 – 23. Apply your infection prevention and control knowledge. The game can be played on your desktop computer and is available below.

The Hidden Risk: Virtual Escape Room

A strange tree like virus has taken over the small town you live in. Your friend who works for a nearby research laboratory is infected and needs your help finding and distributing the cure. Use your infection prevention and control knowledge to get into the laboratory and save the day before it is too late! To play this virtual escape room you will need to follow a series of clues and puzzles to crack codes and make it out without getting infected!

Be sure to carefully read the dialogue and instructions throughout the game.

Good luck...
