Promoting a Positive Breastfeeding Experience

The first three modules are available as part of the Foundations for Working with Families series of Alberta’s go-to online 20-hour breastfeeding course for healthcare professionals. These modules provide flexible, continuing medical education accredited learning to enhance your breastfeeding knowledge and support skills.

  • Complete each module at your own pace – take an afternoon or take a year.
  • Online modules can be accessed from anywhere and your progress is saved.
  • Completion certificates can be used to fulfill Continuing Competence Program (CPP) requirements and to apply for Continuing Education Recognition Points (CERPs).

Course Modules

The first three modules of the course are available as part of the Foundations for Working with Families series:

  • Positive Breastfeeding Support
    This 1.5 hour module will enhance your interpersonal skills as you help families navigate through their breastfeeding journey and meet their feeding goals. Positive Breastfeeding Support explores Alberta parent perspectives on breastfeeding support and shows you how to apply different patient and family centred care approaches in your everyday practice.  Summary
  • Informed Feeding Decisions
    This 1.5 hour module will provide you with the knowledge and skills to facilitate Informed Feeding Decisions (IFDs) across the continuum of care.  Summary
  • Including Partners & Supporters
    This 1 hour module will provide you with the interpersonal knowledge and skills you need to encourage partner and close supporter involvement in the breastfeeding team. Including Partners & Supporters explores family perspectives on breastfeeding support and provides you with strategies to help your practice and workplace become more partner and supporter-friendly. Summary
