Interactions between healthcare providers and their clients/patients provide an important opportunity to support temporary and long-term tobacco cessation, thus realizing a significant potential benefit to healthcare costs in Alberta through improved public health. The following tools and resources will help to build your confidence, skills and competence in health promotion and harm reduction/cessation related to tobacco, vape and cannabis products.

Tobacco as a Standard of Care in Healthcare Settings

We have helped AHS and other healthcare providers build tobacco care pathways, forms and other resources.

Health Professional Training

The AlbertaQuits Learning Series includes both online modules and in-person workshops including Tobacco Basics, Brief Tobacco Intervention, Tobacco Cessation Pharmacotherapy, Intensive Tobacco Intervention, Applied Tobacco Intervention and Foundational Health Educator:

  • Classroom or virtual classroom courses - register
  • Certified Tobacco Educator – we have partnered with the Canadian Network for Respiratory Care to provide learning units that will allow health professionals in Alberta to be eligible to write the credential exam.
    • CTE Assignment - This end of course case-based assignment is the final step in completing the Certified Tobacco Educator preparatory course before you can challenge the Certified Tobacco Educator (CTE) examination. The assignment can be requested from tru@ahs.ca.
