Healthcare service restoration for Fort McMurray near completion

FORT McMURRAY – Residents of Fort McMurray now have access to all of the healthcare services that were available in the city before the wildfire, with the exception of some Allied Health services.

On Monday, the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre’s (NLRHC) Cancer Clinic reopened and there are no longer any health service-related concerns for residents returning to the city.

“We are thrilled to have all of our health services back up and running in the community. We know that access to health care is a huge factor in the decision to return home. All of this wouldn’t have been possible if not for the tireless effort of dedicated AHS staff and physicians,” says David Matear, Senior Operating Director, Area 10.

The NLRHC is providing full comprehensive health care services with all beds open on each unit. Dialysis services resumed June 22, and all of the long term care patients are back home.

This final phase of reopening of services follows the return to core Regional Hospital health care services on June 13. That phase saw the resumption of medical and surgical inpatient, ICU, OR, obstetrical, pediatric, and inpatient psychiatry services.

Restoration to full Allied Health services at NLRHC is ongoing. For updates, please contact Allied Health at 780-788-1377. Other health care services, such as Home Care and Public Health, returned to full service earlier this month.
