MEDICINE HAT – Parenting is Prevention is a free Alberta Health Services (AHS) workshop that helps parents and caregivers understand the important role they play in preventing drug and alcohol use in children and youth ages eight to 15.

Led by AHS facilitators, the six-hour workshop provides a safe environment for parents and caregivers to learn about the daily pressures their children may be facing, and how to protect children and youth from drug and alcohol abuse. By joining other parents and caregivers, participants will learn tips and strategies to help children and youth make healthy choices.

Topic include:

  • Commonly used drugs.
  • How to communicate with children and youth about drugs and alcohol.
  • Risk factors and strategies parents and caregivers can use to prevent harm and protect children and youth.
  • Influence of peers and peer pressure.

The workshop is on Wednesday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Addiction and Mental Health office in the Provincial Building, 346 3 St. S.E. Use the 3 St. entrance; the workshop will be held in Room 1 A/B. Please call 403-529-3582 to register. Note: There is a one-hour lunch break; lunch is not provided.
