X-ray services temporarily affected during construction

January 14, 2019

BOYLE – X-ray services at the Boyle Healthcare Centre will be temporarily affected when upgrades to its duct system start Friday (Jan. 18) at the Alberta Health Services facility.

A portable X-ray unit will be available from Jan. 18 to Feb. 21 for patients who urgently require an immediate exam at the healthcare centre.

However, during this time, other patients requiring X-ray services will be directed to other AHS facilities or community providers, including the Athabasca Healthcare Centre, Aspen Diagnostic Imaging Clinic, Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre, or the George McDougall Healthcare Centre. The local diagnostic imaging team will work with patients and families to help ensure they are getting the care they need as close to home as possible.

About 200 X-ray exams are performed every month at the Boyle Healthcare Centre; about one in five is needed urgently.

The emergency department will remain open throughout the construction period.

This $5.7-million construction project, which also includes upgrades to the facility’s roof and fire alarm system, is necessary to ensure a safe and healthy environment for patients and staff.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
