AHS hosts Indigenous Peoples Awareness Week events

RED DEER – Canadians will be recognizing the diverse cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities by celebrating Indigenous Peoples Awareness Week, June 17 to 21.

In the Central Zone, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has planned a number of events throughout the week. The public is welcome to attend all of the following events.

At Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury in Ponoka:

Tuesday June 18:

  • Noon to 2 p.m. – Smudge ceremony and drummer.

Thursday June 20:

  • Noon to 2 p.m. – Bannock and feast day in the kitchen.

At Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre:

Tuesday June 18:

  • Noon to 2 p.m. – Drummers and dance performance, Indigenous documentaries in the lobby, and bannock tasting. All three events will be held in the lobby.

At Rocky Mountain House Health Centre:

Friday June 21:

  • All day – Indigenous education displays and bannock.

At Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre:

Friday, June 21:

  • All day – Elder talking circle and teachings. Fry bread tacos will be served in the cafeteria.

At Red Deer Regional Hospital and Care Centre:

Friday June 21:

  • All day – Art and educational displays.
