New pediatrician now practising in Grande Prairie

September 30, 2019

GRANDE PRAIRIE – A new pediatrician has been recruited to practise in the city, increasing local access to the specialized medical care of infants, children and adolescents.

Dr. Salam Al-Jubouri joined the local medical team earlier this month. He is providing care at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital and practising out of the Grande Banks Medical Clinic.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Dr. Al-Jubouri to the community,” says Dr. James Pope, Facility Medical Director, Queen Elizabeth II Hospital. “There are many patients in Grande Prairie and area who will benefit from his skills.”

Dr. Al-Jubouri becomes the sixth pediatrician practising in the city.

“We’re very excited about this move because it will give us an opportunity for a new start,” says Dr. Al-Jubouri, who is joined in Grande Prairie by his wife and teenage son, while their daughter remains in Calgary at university.

“We like how quiet Grande Prairie seems compared to Calgary. We don’t have to drive for more than 30 minutes to arrive at our destination.”

Dr. Al-Jubouri says he and his family enjoy an active lifestyle and spending time outdoors.

AHS continues to recruit for family physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs.

AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.
