COVID-19 immunization appointments update

February 25, 2021

Alberta hit another milestone to celebrate Thursday as more than 108,000 Albertans aged 75+ have now booked their COVID-19 immunization appointments, meaning that in in two days AHS has booked approximately half of eligible seniors to be immunized. More than 7,900 were slated to receive their first dose on Thursday.

AHS implemented additional measures to help ensure Albertans are able to book immunization appointments as efficiently as possible both through Health Link, and the AHS online immunization booking tool.

We have implemented a booking request queuing tool to the AHS online immunization booking tool. This allows booking requests to be accepted and held in queue until the system can process the requests in order it was received. Today Albertans are experiencing short wait times in the queue, of up to 15 minutes, but at times there is no queue at all.

Please be patient if you are waiting to book your vaccine appointment. The AHS online immunization booking tool and Health Link are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Alberta Health Services has also improved access to 811. Albertans calling 811 now have a choice to route their calls to book a COVID-19 immunization appointment or to reach a registered nurse for medical concerns. The two options will help refer callers more quickly to the resource they need. A holding queue for callers requesting the immunization appointment option has also been created. Additional Health Link team members have been made available to answer both types of calls.

The combined booking system of ahs.ca/covidvaccine and 811 Health Link system can take approximately 5,000 bookings an hour.

Albertans can also book COVID-19 immunization through some local pharmacies. by visiting Alberta Blue Cross.

We thank all Albertans, age 75 years and older, for their support of the COVID-19 vaccine program.
