January 10, 2022

WESTLOCK — Local and area families now have improved access to care with the arrival of a new physician practising in the community.

Dr. Ali Saiyed is a long-term locum physician who recently accepted a full-time permanent position in Westlock. Dr. Saiyed will be providing care at the Westlock Healthcare Centre and practising out of the Associated Medical Clinic.

He joins a team of 14 other family medicine physicians in the community.

“I’m grateful Dr. Saiyed has accepted this full-time position and is committed to ensuring area residents have lasting access to primary care,” says Glenn Van Dijken, MLA for Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock. “The Government of Alberta knows healthcare is an integral service everywhere in the province and we’re working to attract skilled professionals to our rural communities.”

Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit for physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs.

AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician attraction and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
