AHS loves our volunteers, and we are recruiting!

February 1, 2022

SOUTH ZONE — Celebrate love this Valentine’s Day by giving your time in support of your community. Volunteering with AHS is a great way to learn about careers in healthcare, gain valuable life experience and forge lifelong friendships.

Volunteer Resources is actively recruiting volunteers at sites throughout the province, including in the South Zone. AHS volunteer programs and initiatives have been adapted to support patients and residents while following public health orders and COVID-19 protocols. Volunteer safety is a priority, and we work with every volunteer to ensure their well-being regardless of the role or setting.

Volunteers are an integral part of the healthcare team, supporting and enhancing the work of our healthcare professionals. Our volunteers engage in meaningful activities and roles such as patient visitation, patient and family advisors, way finders, spiritual care, auxiliary members, pet visitation and much more.

You can recognize the volunteers at South Zone sites by the distinctive red vests they all wear.

Volunteer Resources has also developed new orientation procedures to ensure volunteers are comfortable and familiar with the COVID-19 safety protocols in order to keep volunteers, patients and staff safe. View current volunteer opportunities

At present, AHS Volunteer Resources has 7,300 volunteers in various capacities, which is a significant drop from the 15,010 registered volunteers in 2019 as a result of the pandemic. Many volunteer programs were impacted throughout the pandemic as AHS limited the number of people within our facilities to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and volunteers decided to pause their volunteering activities. We look forward to welcoming former and new volunteers as we reengage in programs across the zone.
