May 30, 2022

HIGH PRAIRIE — A new family medicine physician will be practicing at the High Prairie Community Health and Wellness Clinic as of June 3. Dr. Baha Al-Mashikhi will be accepting new patients and can be reached at 780-523-6440. Appointments can be made starting May 30.

“I couldn’t be happier to see the summer begin with such a strong team of physicians in High Prairie,” says Pat Rehn, MLA for Lesser Slave Lake. “This is the kind of active recruitment that rural communities need to see and that this government is working hard to provide.”

Dr. Ali Niazee of Community Health Services says Dr. Al-Mashikhi will contribute valuable skills and experience as part of the local health care team.

“We’re excited to see Dr. Al-Mashikhi join our team in High Prairie. I know he’ll be warmly welcomed by this community.”

Dr. Al-Mashikhi comes to AHS from Ireland, where he worked for Health Service Executive South Hub Hospitals in Cork and Kerry and treated both in-patients and emergency room visitors.

Multiple options are available for High Prairie and area residents depending on their healthcare needs, including the High Prairie Health Complex emergency department, local family physicians, walk-in clinics, local pharmacists, Health Link (dial 811), primary care networks, and online at MyHealth.Alberta.ca.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit for physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs.

AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician attraction and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
