WESTLOCK — Local and area families now have improved access to care with the arrival of a new physician practising in the community.

Dr. Isabella Tu is a family medicine and emergency care physician who recently accepted a full-time permanent position here. Dr. Tu is practising out of the Pembina Medical Clinic, as well as at the Westlock Healthcare Centre. She is now accepting patients and can be reached at 780-349-4425. She joins a team of 13 other family medicine physicians in the community.

“We couldn’t be happier that Dr. Tu has chosen to practise in Westlock after spending time here as a locum last year,” says Glenn Van Dijken, MLA for Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock. “It’s a pleasure to welcome her back, and I know her experience and skills will be a significant asset to the community and surrounding area.”

Dr. Tu is a University of Alberta graduate, who has worked as a locum at rural Alberta communities, including Westlock, since last year. Within her recent locums, Dr. Tu has offered full-scope family practice, covering shifts in emergency, inpatient and clinical services.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit for physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician attraction and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
