BEAVERLODGE – Alberta Health Services (AHS) has signed a letter of intent to pursue becoming the anchor tenant in the Mountview Health Complex.
The new health complex will bring together multiple health services, including inpatient care, seniors care, community health, and emergency medical services.
“The Government of Alberta is excited to partner with the Mountview Health Complex committee to create a new health facility that will serve the people of this region for many years to come. This new facility will provide sustainable, high-quality healthcare, and allow residents to continue to receive care close to home,” says Jason Copping, Minister of Health.
“This community’s commitment to a new health facility is evident,” says Honorable Travis Toews, MLA of Grande Prairie-Wapiti and Minister of Finance.
“This harnesses the power of public-private partnerships and invests in the future of the region and the town of Beaverlodge.”
Next steps for the Mountview Health Complex Committee (MHCC) include the functional planning of the facility, as well as building relationships with other potential tenants.
“Securing AHS as a tenant is a big step for the Mountview Health Complex project process, and we look forward to welcoming more businesses and services into Beaverlodge. We’re thankful for community members’ input and patience as we work to bring Doris McFarlane’s vision to reality,” says Gary Rycroft, Mayor of Beaverlodge.
The new health facility will be built on the 20 acres donated to the town by the McFarlane family a decade ago.
“AHS is excited to further explore being a part of the Mountview Health Complex in Beaverlodge,” says interim AHS President and CEO Mauro Chies.
“Providing quality, patient-centred healthcare not only requires the best workforce and programs, but the best facilities to meet the needs of all people now and into the future.”
The town of Beaverlodge has partnered with developer Landrex Inc. to deliver the project. The partnership will be responsible for securing financial investment and retaining professional services for functional planning, design, and construction of the health complex.
“As the town of Beaverlodge’s partner, Landrex will work alongside MHCC to determine size, layout, construction and completion of the new complex,” commented Sophie Baran, President of Landrex Inc. “The design of the building will be determined by the services being provided inside, while future expansion of residential and commercial opportunities will also be examined.
MHCC and Landrex will use community engagement activities and events to ensure the project receives input from residents and key stakeholders.
Community consultation will also occur to determine the future of the buildings and land that will be decommissioned following AHS’ move to the Mountview Health Complex.
MHCC was established in the spring of 2020 with the goal to create a new home for health services utilizing private funds.
The MHCC includes representatives from AHS, the Town of Beaverlodge, County of Grande Prairie, Horse Lake First Nation, and the Grande Spirit Foundation.
