DRAYTON VALLEY — Work has begun on upgrades to the emergency department (ED) triage desk at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre.
The renovations will include a complete redesign and renovation of the ED triage area to improve operational efficiency and patient safety.
“All Albertans, no matter where they live, need and deserve access to our world-class health system, and they need it close to where they live,” says Jason Copping, Minister of Health. “These projects help make that a reality, and are part of our commitment to manage and improve health infrastructure and services across Alberta.”
The project is expected to be complete by summer. Funding for the project comes from the Government of Alberta’s Rural Health Facilities Revitalization Program.
“We are pleased to have these funds going into the healthcare system,” says Mark Smith, MLA for Drayton Valley-Devon. “Investments like this one in rural Alberta are an important part in ensuring Albertans have access to healthcare facilities that are safe and secure; places that provide high-quality care when they or their loved ones are sick or injured.”
A further $129,000 of government Infrastructure Maintenance Program funding has recently supported other upgrades at the local hospital and care centre, including repairs to the chillers, emergency power supply system, asphalt, domestic hot water and heat exchangers.
“Coming to an emergency department is usually stressful, so I’m pleased these renovations will help create an environment where people can be as comfortable as possible when they come here,” says Mauro Chies, interim Alberta Health Services (AHS) President and CEO.
AHS, in partnership with Alberta Infrastructure and Alberta Health, is building and renewing facilities across the province to provide accessible, sustainable, quality healthcare to all Albertans. AHS currently has about 540 maintenance projects underway throughout the province.
