CANMORE – More than $2.2 million has been raised to revitalize the emergency department at the Canmore General Hospital, meeting the fundraising goal announced by the Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation this past November.
The goal was achieved through the generosity of community donors, combined with a transformational gift from area residents Lorne and Joyce Heuckroth.
“I would like to congratulate the Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation on achieving this very ambitious goal,” says Jason Copping, Minister of Health. “I would like to thank Lorne and Joyce Heuckroth and everyone who donated for their generosity. It’s inspiring to see everyone working together to ensure we continue to provide the best possible healthcare in Canmore and area.”
“I am so grateful to our hospital workers, donors, community partners, and volunteers who are the champions of healthcare in the Bow Valley,” adds Steven Scott, Board Chair of the foundation. “Reaching our fundraising goal could not have happened without the community engagement from every person and organization who donated to our campaign. A special thank you is in order to the Heuckroth family, whose incredible generosity enabled us to reach our goal and get the project underway in record time.”
The $4.4-million Canmore General Hospital ED project — which will involve additional funding from the Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the foundation — will improve patient flow, create private patient treatment spaces, and meet current infection prevention and control standards. Construction is set to begin this summer, and the project is expected to be completed late next year.
“Congratulations to the foundation, the community and healthcare staff on reaching this impressive milestone,” says AHS President and CEO Mauro Chies. “This is an important project that will improve healthcare in the area.”
The Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation is a registered charity, separate from the Canmore General Hospital. Funds raised by the foundation through the generosity of our donors does not replace base funding through Alberta Health Services but enhance the patient care provided by the hospital through equipment purchases, programs, staff education and improvement of facilities.
