AHS staff celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Month

May 31, 2023

EDMONTON – For the month of June, Alberta Health Services’ staff and sites will be celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Month through various virtual and in-person awareness and education events.

Albertans are encouraged to join in the celebrations by taking part in events or engaging with the AHS Together4Health webpage to learn more about programming within AHS aimed at improving culturally safe healthcare and health outcomes for Indigenous patients and families.

Hosted by Dr. Esther Tailfeathers, Senior Medical Director for the Indigenous Wellness Core, along with Marty Landrie, Executive Director of the Indigenous Wellness Core, the celebrations kick off on June 1 at noon with a virtual opening ceremony. The event will feature an address from Meeka Otway, a member of the AHS Wisdom Council, and updates from each Zone.

Indigenous health services are delivered throughout the province in partnership with Indigenous peoples, communities and organizations with the goal of providing high-quality, culturally-safe, accessible healthcare.

By learning about and inspiring each other, we can enhance an inclusive healthcare system that is welcoming and respectful of all cultures, traditions and beliefs. Together, let’s continue to build on our commitment to nurture and grow relations between AHS and Indigenous peoples.
