ATHABASCA — Local and area residents now have improved access to primary care with the recruitment of another family physician for the community.
Dr. Inga Secrieru is a family medicine physician who is now practising at the Athabasca Healthcare Centre. Dr. Secrieru joins a team of seven other family medicine physicians in the community.
“I’m so pleased Dr. Secrieru is bringing her skills and expertise to Athabasca,” says Glenn van Dijken, MLA for Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock. “I look forward to seeing how Dr. Secrieru’s experience and contributions will improve primary care in our region.”
“It’s a pleasure to welcome Dr. Secrieru to Athabasca,” adds Dr. Joe Stander, Associate Zone Medical Director for Alberta Health Services (AHS). “Family physicians are often the first point of healthcare for people and having Dr. Secrieru as part of the team will increase the access to quality healthcare in Athabasca.”
Originally from Moldova, Dr. Secrieru completed her medical training and residency in Molodva and practised as a family physician before coming to Canada.
Dr. Secrieru, her husband and their two children spent time in Calgary before moving to Athabasca. An active young family, they enjoy a variety of sports and outdoor activities.
AHS continues to recruit for physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician attraction and retention committees.
