WETASKIWIN – Local and area residents will have increased access to care with the recruitment of a new family physician in the community.
Dr. Marwa Mriwah will begin practising in January at Wetaskiwin Family Medical Practice clinic and Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre. Dr. Mriwah will be joining the Wetaskiwin care team as a general practitioner and surgical assistant. Surgical assistants work as part of the operating room team to help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.
Dr. Mriwah received her medical education at Tripoli University in Libya and has 10 years of experience working as a family physician.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Mriwah when she joins the dedicated and highly trained team of health professionals who serve our community,” says Rick Wilson, MLA for Maskwacis-Wetaskiwin and Minister of Indigenous Relations.
Dr. Mriwah will be the 30th physician serving the community, as well as surrounding areas.
“I had a chance to meet some of the doctors and medical team members in Wetaskiwin, and they made me feel very welcome,” says Dr. Mriwah. “They are very supportive and I can’t wait to join this friendly environment.”
Her hobbies are travelling and exploring different cultures around the world, hiking and camping.

AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities.
