SYLVAN LAKE – Local residents have increased access to obstetric care with the arrival of a new specialist physician now practising in the community.

Dr. Abigail Garba works out of Sylvan Lake Family Health Centre, Sylvan Lake Advanced Ambulatory Care Service and Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. She is accepting new patients and can be reached at 403-887-2224. Dr. Garba practised as a family physician in Nigeria for more than a decade prior to arriving in Canada. She also received her medical training in Nigeria and specializes in basic obstetrical care.

“It’s a pleasure to announce the addition of Dr. Garba to Sylvan Lake and the Central Zone medical team to help care for local residents,” says Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, and MLA for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake. “Her skills and experience will be an excellent addition to our community and the region. We are thrilled to welcome her to Sylvan Lake.”

With Dr. Garba’s arrival, there are now 20 physicians practising in Sylvan Lake.

“I look forward to getting to know the people of Sylvan Lake and being able to serve and contribute to the community,” says Dr. Garba.

Dr. Garba’s interests include travelling, swimming, playing piano and guitar, reading novels, writing poetry, knitting and crocheting.
