Anesthesiologist joins Vermilion healthcare team

January 18, 2024

VERMILION - A long-serving locum physician in Vermilion has brought her expertise in anesthesia to the community on a permanent basis.

Dr. Hesli Landsberg has joined the anesthesia team at Vermilion Health Centre in a permanent part-time role. Dr. Landsberg will continue to care for patients coming to the facility for surgical or endoscopic procedures as one of five physicians now practising in the community.

More than 1,070 scopes and over 1,050 surgical procedures were completed in Vermilion in 2023. With the addition of Dr. Landsberg, the number of patients who receive surgical or endoscopic procedures in the community will continue to grow, which is expected to reduce wait times for procedures. Her recruitment is also expected to reduce the need for local and area residents to travel to the city for surgical or endoscopic procedures.

“I am thrilled Dr. Hesli Landsberg has committed to the beautiful community of Vermilion,” says Garth Rowswell, MLA for Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright. “Her abilities in anesthesia will be well utilized by local patients and those coming from across Alberta.”

Dr. Landsberg received her medical training in South Africa. She continues to practise at Lloydminster Hospital, having joined the team in 2009. Dr. Landsberg has focused on providing anesthesia full-time since 2014.

“I love small-town people and the atmosphere in any healthcare setting of a smaller town,” says Dr. Landsberg. “While l am in this fortunate position, I look forward to doing as much as l can to ensure our surgical patients receive the best care possible in our local operating rooms.”

In her free time, Dr. Landsberg enjoys playing piano and violin, quilting and crochet, reading crime novels, and caring for her and her husband’s two children.
