Wayfinding volunteers needed for Red Deer’s hospital

October 9, 2024

RED DEER — With increasing construction activity and internal program moves throughout the facility, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to join the wayfinding team at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre (RDRHC).

Visiting a hospital — either as a patient, family member or visitor — can be an overwhelming experience. Wayfinders support anyone visiting the hospital by helping to take patients and members of the public to their appointments, answering questions and providing general information and direction around the hospital.

As the hospital redevelopment project progresses, there will be changes to access for some programs and services, as well as new entry points for some patients. While patients and families will be provided wayfinding information when appointments are booked, the presence of additional wayfinders at the site will ensure everyone gets where they need to go.

Wayfinding volunteers should be mature and comfortable approaching people as they enter and exit the facility, and should also be physically able to move and be comfortable pushing a wheelchair to assist if the need arises.

Volunteers would be scheduled for one daytime shift per week, Monday to Friday. Additional shifts and expanded hours may be explored in the future as needed.

Those interested can learn more about volunteering with AHS and submit an application. For additional information, or with questions on completing an application, contact Volunteer Resources co-ordinator Brenda Farwell at 403-343-4715 ext 1.
