RED DEER – A newly recruited family physician is available to provide care to residents in Red Deer and area.

Dr. Ignacio Del Papa is working out of Delburne Medical Centre and provides hospitalist services at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. Dr. Del Papa received his medical education at the University of Buenos Aires and practised most recently in Argentina prior to coming to Canada.

Individuals needing a family doctor can call 403-749-3939 to arrange a meet-and-greet appointment.

“Family doctors are vital to the health of Alberta families and communities,” says Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health, and MLA for Red Deer-North. “Dr. Del Papa is a welcome addition to Red Deer, and he is sure to be a great asset to our community and the surrounding area.”

“Red Deer is the third largest city in the best province in Canada,” adds Jason Stephan, MLA for Red Deer-South. “It is good to see medical professionals coming to Red Deer to serve families and individuals in our wonderful community.”

Dr. Del Papa says moving to a smaller city with a slower pace of life is what attracted him to central Alberta.

“Having the opportunity to work in a small community, where you have the chance to really know your patients, has only increased my desire to work here,” he says.

In his leisure time, Dr. Del Papa enjoys playing tennis, soccer and board games with his family.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit for physicians across the Central Zone to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services provides a range of healthcare services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Our mission is to provide excellent, patient-focused healthcare that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans. Our current focus is on reducing emergency department wait times, improving EMS response times, increasing access to surgeries, and improving patient flow.
