LACOMBE - A newly recruited family physician is available to provide care to residents in Lacombe and area.
Dr. Monir Ali is working out of Mainstreet Medical Services in Lacombe, and provides hospitalist, emergency and long-term care coverage at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre. Individuals needing a family doctor can call 403-782-6717 to arrange a meet-and-greet appointment.
"This is wonderful news for patients in both Lacombe and central Alberta," says Jennifer Johnson, MLA for Lacombe-Ponoka. "The recruitment of physicians such as Dr. Ali will help ensure timely access to services for people throughout the region."
Mainstreet Medical Services is now home to six physicians. There are presently 18 physicians serving Lacombe.
Dr. Ali received his medical education in Libya, where he began practising medicine in 2014. He later practised in Liverpool, England, for four years prior to coming to Canada.
Lacombe's newest physician is grateful to be in the community.
"The people here have really made me feel at home," says Dr. Ali, who enjoys swimming, fishing and travelling.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit physicians across the Central Zone to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.
