GRANDE PRAIRIE — A newly recruited family physician is now practising in Grande Prairie, improving access to care for local and area residents.

Dr. Ehioze (Oz) Isoa is a family medicine physician practising at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and the Grande Prairie Primary Care Network After-Hours Clinic. He is supporting the emergency department, inpatient and outpatient services, and long-term care at the hospital, as well as providing community care at the after-hours clinic.

“It is great news to welcome Dr. Isoa to the community,” says Nolan Dyck, MLA for Grande Prairie. “Primary care physicians play a pivotal role in healthcare. His support to local residents will help ensure they have continued access to timely healthcare.”

“Welcoming Dr. Isoa to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and the Primary Care Network is a tremendous asset to our healthcare system,” adds Ron Wiebe, MLA for Grande Prairie-Wapiti. “His commitment to providing care at the hospital and the after-hours clinic is truly appreciated, and we are fortunate to have him as part of our community.”

Dr. Isoa received his medical training and completed his residency in Nigeria, his home country. He moved to Calgary in 2008 and arrived in northern Alberta last month. Outside of work, Dr. Isoa enjoys reading, travelling, soccer and social events.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Isoa join our healthcare team,” says Dr. Jane Ojedokun, Zone Medical Director for the North Zone of Alberta Health Services (AHS). “His expertise and dedication will be invaluable in ensuring our patients continue to receive the care they need, exactly when they need it most.”

As part of an overall physician recruitment strategy, AHS has three physician resource planners in the North Zone who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. These planners work closely with partner organizations, such as the Rural Health Professionals Action Plan and local, independent community physician attraction and retention committees.
