Redwater Healthcare Centre evacuated due to wildfire

May 7, 2025

REDWATER — To ensure the safety of all patients and staff, the Redwater Healthcare Centre was evacuated early this morning due to wildfire activity in the area.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) and its EMS partners safely evacuated acute care patients and long-term care residents.

Patients and residents were transported to healthcare facilities in Athabasca, Jasper, Whitecourt, Edson and Hinton. AHS has contacted families of those impacted and will continue to provide information as needed.

The Redwater Healthcare Centre emergency department remains open, and EMS resources remain to support those in the community, including emergency first responders. If you have an emergency, please call 911.

All appointments with laboratory services, diagnostic imaging, mental health and public health in the community are postponed. Clients will be contacted directly by Alberta Precision Laboratories or AHS to reschedule as soon as possible.

AHS is grateful for its frontline teams, staff and physicians who came together overnight to support the response across AHS, and especially those whose families have been evacuated. AHS is also grateful for and are actively supporting those who remain in the community.

AHS provides wildfire resources for Albertans at AHS.ca/wildfire, including mental health, air quality and emergency planning links.
