Evacuated patients, residents return to Redwater health centre

May 20, 2025

REDWATER — Over the weekend, Alberta Health Services (AHS) completed the safe return of evacuated acute care patients and long-term care residents to Redwater Health Centre.

On May 7, in response to wildfire activity in the area, AHS and its EMS partners temporarily evacuated patients and residents from the facility to healthcare centres in Athabasca, Jasper, Whitecourt, Edson and Hinton.

AHS has notified the families of patients and residents returning to the health centre.

The local emergency department remains open and EMS is available to the community. If you have an emergency, please dial 911. All other services available at the facility also remain available.

AHS is grateful for the front-line teams, staff and physicians who came together to support both the evacuation and last weekend’s return.

AHS provides wildfire resources for Albertans at AHS.ca/wildfire, including mental health, air quality and emergency planning.
