SLAVE LAKE – The new Alberta Health Services (AHS) Brian Rosche Ambulance Station in Slave Lake marked its official grand opening today.
The 10,656 sq ft. state-of-the-art building is designed to better accommodate local staff and ambulances, reflecting the growing and changing needs of the community. Features of the new facility include a well-designed layout to streamline operations, and new, comfortable and functional staff areas, including break rooms and sleep quarters, to support staff. These enhancements will help ensure that staff can deliver prompt, effective, and high-quality emergency medical care.
The $6.8-million facility was funded through the Government of Alberta’s Rural Health Facilities Revitalization Program.
“The grand opening of the Brian Rosche Ambulance Station reflects Alberta’s commitment to high-quality care in Slave Lake. This new EMS station shows the government is listening and taking action on local concerns,” says Matt Jones, Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services.
“Today is a proud moment for the community of Slave Lake and the opening of the Brian Rosche Ambulance Station is a testament to the collective effort and dedication of many. This new facility will ensure that local EMS staff are well-supported and equipped to provide exceptional care to the residents of Slave Lake and surrounding area,” added Ron Wiebe, Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health.
“Mr. Rosche’s unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare in the region, including his advocacy for a new EMS facility, has been deeply valued by the community,” says Slave Lake Mayor Francesca Ward. “His contributions to local health services were also recognized through his roles as a member of the local Health Advisory Council and a former air ambulance pilot. We are grateful for his legacy and excited for the positive impact this facility will have on our community.”
Mr. Rosche passed away on Aug. 16, 2020, at the age of 68, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication. The naming of the new EMS station stands as a tribute to his passion and commitment to improving healthcare services for the people of Slave Lake.
“The new EMS facility will significantly improve our ability to respond to emergencies more quickly and effectively, ensuring better care for the members of the communities we serve,” says Rob Barone, Associate Executive Director of the AHS North Zone.
“The new ambulance station will not only serve the public but will also provide a much-needed base for operations, for our dedicated paramedics and support staff, ensuring they have the resources and support to perform their duties efficiently and effectively.”
