Newly recruited OB/GYNs to begin practising next month in Grande Prairie

September 5, 2025

GRANDE PRAIRIE — Two newly recruited physicians will begin practising in Grande Prairie this fall, improving access to obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) care for area residents.

Dr. Johnson Amu will be joining the Willow Green Medical Centre, while Dr. Mamdouh Ghobrial will be practising at O & G Medical. The new physicians are currently accepting patients in preparation for their arrival next month.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Amu and Dr. Ghobrial to Grande Prairie,” says Nolan Dyck, MLA for Grande Prairie. “Grande Prairie is a growing community with many young families. Their specialized expertise will have a positive impact on our region as a whole.”

Both Dr. Ghobrial and Dr. Amu completed their medical training and residency in the U.K. They join four other OB/GYNs currently providing care to Grande Prairie and area patients: Dr. Modupe Omole, Dr. Drew Barreth, Dr. Arilefela Jimoh and Dr. Christa Delacruz. All local OB/GYNs accept referrals.

“Dr. Ghobrial and Dr. Amu are welcome additions to the robust healthcare team in Grande Prairie,” says Dr. Jane Ojedokun, Zone Medical Director in the North Zone of Alberta Health Services (AHS). “Their arrival will help ensure patients in the Grande Prairie region continue to receive the highest standard of care close to home.”

In addition, there are two midwives and seven family medicine physicians who provide low-risk obstetrics services in Grande Prairie. To find out more, please call their respective clinics.

As part of an overall physician recruitment strategy, AHS has three physician resource planners in the North Zone who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. These planners work closely with partner organizations, such as the Rural Health Professionals Action Plan and local, independent community physician attraction and retention committees.
