HIGH LEVEL — It’s not everyday you get a visit from the RCMP Musical Ride. For residents at Northwest Health Centre Long Term Care site as well as Mackenzie House seniors lodge/supportive living facility, the mid-August experience brought pure delight and some affectionate horsing around.

The RCMP Musical Ride aims to connect with Canadians from all walks of life and often makes a point of visiting seniors’ residences during the day to reach those who may not be able to attend their evening public performances.

“For these lovely folks residing in this facility, it was such a great experience for their health and well-being,” says Amanda Goorachurn, seniors health care manager for High Level, Fort Vermilion, Paddle Prairie and Rainbow Lake.

“To be able to ask questions about the training fed their curiosity for horses, in addition to reminding some of childhood memories caring for their relatives' horses or volunteering to work with them in their teen years.”

The RCMP Musical Ride travels across Canada performing in up to 50 communities across Canada each year between May and October. Celebrating Canadian heritage with a troop of up to 32 riders, who are all police officers, and their horses performing intricate formations and drills set to music, every performance supports local charities and non-profits making a meaningful impact wherever the ride goes.

Goorachurn adds: “Our site is so grateful to the RCMP Musical ride for reaching out to provide this wonderful experience for our residents.”
