Water quality advisory lifted for Sturgeon River in Edmonton Zone

November 14, 2025

ST. ALBERT – Effective immediately, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has lifted the water quality advisory that was issued for the Sturgeon River in Edmonton Zone.

Recent weather has cooled river water temperatures to such an extent that water quality, including fecal bacteria levels, present a low health risk for usage of the river for recreational purposes.

Effective immediately, AHS has lifted the water quality advisory for:

STURGEON RIVER

The advisory was originally issued for the Rivercrest area near Benoit Bridge and for the section of the river northeast of the Ray Gibbon Drive bridge near St. Albert. The advisory was due to sewage entering the river after a wastewater pipeline leak. Recent water tests show that the impact of the leak has now dissipated.

As always, visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any river, lake or reservoir at any time.
