TABER – Construction is set to begin this week at Taber Health Centre to modernize surgical service areas, including upgrades to the site’s two operating rooms (ORs).
Renovations will not affect the delivery of services or programs at the health centre, with one OR suite remaining operational throughout construction.
Beginning June 15, temporary barriers will be in place to ensure staff and public safety. Staff and patients will continue to access services through the main entrance. Those attending the health centre will see temporary structures near the ambulance bay exit, including a construction trailer and storage container, throughout the renovation. In the same area, the ORs’ new air handling units will be installed.
The $7.2-million project, anticipated to be completed in fall 2027, is funded through the Alberta government’s Alberta Surgical Initiative and Infrastructure Maintenance Program. Improvements include new equipment booms and surgical lighting, upgraded air handling units, new wall protection, and cosmetic finishes to improve the appearance of the nurses’ station, pediatric dental and surgical workstation, day surgery and OR suites.
Renovations will improve staff and patient safety, improve efficiency, modernize the look and functionality of surgical service areas, and enhance rural operative services.
Alberta Health Services is grateful for the support of the community and staff for their patience during the renovation.
